The East Anglia / Suffolk Region
The county of Suffolk (Sudfole, Suthfolc, meaning 'southern folk') was formed from the south part of the kingdom of East Anglia which had been settled by the Angles in the latter half of the 5th century. The region is situated on England's most easterly North Sea coastline providing the traditional trade routes to the northern reaches of continental Europe.
East Anglia boasts the sunniest climate to be found anywhere the UK, some of the most beautiful countryside in lowland Britain together with wide sandy beaches and unrivalled towns and villages of spectacular character and historical interest.
The Nayland Area
The town of Nayland lies on the northern bank of the river Stour which divides Essex and Suffolk and during the seventeenth century was a leading centre of commerce for the wool and cloth trade of East Anglia.
It has changed little since that time and offers a welcome break from the rigours of urban city life and yet is less than an hours journey from the City of London.
The town is a 10 minute drive from the 2 championship golf courses at Stoke by Nayland, it is surrounded by numerous stunning restaurants including The White Hart in Nayland, The Crown in nearby Stoke by Nayland and Milsoms Restaurant en route to Dedham.
You will also be 5 kms from Colchester, Britain's oldest recorded town, with a rich and varied history linked to the Romans, Boudica, a medieval castle, the English Civil War and the Battle of Britain.
For those of a more leisurely persuasion try hiring a boat at Dedham and follow the river Stour to Flatford Mill or alternatively pay a visit to the sandy beaches of Frinton or Mersea.
